A finely carved 18th century English white marble chimneypiece centre tablet, circa 1780. The scene on the tablet depicts Erminia writing a note to her lover Tancred and was taken from the epic poem ‘La Gerusalemme Liberta’ by the Italian poet Torquato Tasso published in 1581.
